Simon discusses Bath and North East Somerset’s life-saving drug strategy programme

Simon McNeill-Ritchie sat down to speak to Chief Inspector Lungu and Dave Smith, the Senior responsible officer (SRO) for the Government combating drug strategy for BaNES. The pair called in to chat with Simon about their implementation of the Government’s ‘From Harm to Hope’ drug strategy.

The aim of the strategy is to bring down the number of drug-related deaths in the area, and as well as the obvious focus on cracking down on drug supply chains, one tool the force now has at their disposal is naloxone training and provision. Naloxone is a medication used to reverse or reduce the effects of opioids in the event of an overdose, and can save lives.

This complex and nuanced issue has been tackled by various forces up and down the country and you can hear more about how Avon & Somerset Police are working with BaNES to roll our their response locally, by listening to the interview in full below.
