Armistice Day – Interview with D-Day veteran Dennis Lanham

Following the recent passing of D-Day Veteran Dennis Lanham and to mark the upcoming 80th anniversary of D-Day on June 6th 2024, we wanted to share this previously recorded interview from 2021.

Simon had the honour of interviewing Dennis, who was at the time one of only 8 surviving veterans of the D-Day Normandy landings in 1944 in the southwest of England. As a result, he was awarded the Legion d’Honneur by the French Government for his part in the liberation of France.

Born in Bathford in 1924, Dennis had lived in the Bath area all his life with the exception of his wartime experience which saw him conscripted in 1942 then serve in France, Belgium, The Netherlands and Germany. His main role in terms of active service was as a tank maintenance engineer.

Listen to Simon’s interview with Dennis below.

With fondest memories and gratitude to Dennis and condolences to those who knew him.
