Wiltshire Council launches consultation on proposed parking charge changes

Apr 14, 2026 | News

Wiltshire Council is inviting residents, businesses and local organisations to have their say on proposed changes to parking charges across the county.

The consultation, launched on Thursday 9 April, runs until Wednesday 5 May and forms part of the statutory Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) process.

Why changes are being proposed

Parking charges in Wiltshire have remained unchanged since 2022, despite a rise of more than 20% in the Consumer Prices Index and increasing operational costs.

The council says the review is intended to ensure charges align with its Local Transport Plan 4 and wider parking strategy.

What is being proposed

The proposals include:

  • An average 20% increase in parking charges in 2026, followed by a further 5% rise in 2028

  • Extending charging hours to 7am to 7pm

  • Aligning Sunday charges with weekday tariffs

  • Reintroducing on-street Sunday charging in Salisbury

  • Adjusting season tickets and permit fees in line with tariff changes

Council response

Cllr Martin Smith, Cabinet Member for Highways, said the council is keen to hear from the public before any decisions are made.

He said:

“Parking charges in Wiltshire have not changed since 2022, despite significant inflationary pressures during that time, so we feel that these proposals are fair and in line with nearby authorities.”

He added that the consultation is an important step in shaping a parking service that is “fair, modern and aligned with the county’s long-term transport and environmental ambitions”.

Have your say

No final decision has been made, and the council is encouraging people across Wiltshire to take part.
