Town Council backs major town centre investment

Trowbridge Town Council has approved its budget and Council Tax precept for 2026–2027, keeping the increase to 3.99%, just above CPI, while continuing to protect frontline services and invest in the town’s future.
At its meeting on 19th January 2026, Full Council agreed the precept following a recorded vote, with the majority of councillors supporting the decision. The increase equates to less than 23 pence per week for a Band D property. In the current economic climate, the Council has worked hard to keep the increase as low as possible while still delivering services residents rely on.
The approved budget maintains all core services and includes targeted investment to improve the town’s environment and safety. This includes additional funding for grounds maintenance, essential tree maintenance, and enhanced CCTV coverage across parks and public spaces throughout Trowbridge. Further investment has also been allocated to improvements to play parks across the town, ensuring safe, modern, and welcoming facilities for children and families.
Councillors also agreed to progress the business case for the Trowbridge Park Redevelopment Programme. The plans will deliver:
• A completely new, modern play park in the town centre, replacing outdated equipment;
• A refurbished mini-golf facility; and
•Two covered padel courts
These projects form part of a coordinated approach to improving leisure provision, increasing footfall, and strengthening Trowbridge as a destination.
The Council also confirmed that previously agreed projects, including the Wetland project and Bandstand improvements, remain very much part of its longer-term plans. These projects have not been shelved; instead, the Council is actively exploring alternative funding sources and taking a phased approach to delivery, recognising that not all schemes can be progressed at the same time while remaining financially responsible.
