Tony Blackburn brings Sounds of the 60s to The Forum Bath
BBC Radio 2 DJ Tony Blackburn OBE is bringing the music of the 1960s to Bath this autumn with a live celebration of one of popular music’s most influential decades.
Sounds of the 60s Live comes to The Forum Bath on Thursday 22 October, featuring Blackburn alongside the Sounds of the 60s All-Star Band and Singers.
Inspired by Blackburn’s long-running BBC Radio 2 programme, the live show combines music with stories and memories from a decade that transformed music, fashion and popular culture.
The evening will feature classics associated with some of the biggest names of the era, including The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Elvis Presley, The Beach Boys, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Diana Ross & The Supremes, The Everly Brothers and The Drifters.
The live band and singers will also perform new medleys celebrating The Walker Brothers and some of the greatest soul music of the decade.
Blackburn’s own broadcasting career is closely connected to the era being celebrated. He began broadcasting on pirate station Radio Caroline South in 1964 before going on to become the first DJ heard on BBC Radio 1 when the station launched in 1967.
His career has since spanned more than six decades across radio and television, including Top of the Pops, and he has presented Sounds of the 60s on BBC Radio 2 since 2017.
