Major Rail Disruption: Bath to Bristol Line Closed During Half Term

Oct 22, 2025 | News

If you’re planning to travel by train this half term, take note —- GWR will be closing the line between Bath Spa and Bristol Temple Meads for essential track renewal work.

The closure will affect all train services between Bristol and Bath throughout the half-term period, with a range of adjustments and replacement services in place.

What’s Changing

  • Hourly trains between London Paddington and Bristol Temple Meads will be diverted via Bristol Parkway, meaning no stops at Chippenham or Bath Spa.
  • Separate hourly trains will continue to run between London Paddington and Bath Spa via Chippenham.
  • Trains will still operate between:

– Bristol Temple Meads and Cardiff Central or Gloucester

– Bath Spa and Westbury, Portsmouth Harbour, Frome, or Weymouth

Replacement Buses

GWR will run replacement bus services between Bristol Temple Meads and Bath Spa.

In addition, valid rail tickets will be accepted on selected First West of England bus routes:

Bus Number Route
39, X39 Bristol city centre – Bath city centre
39, 349, 522 Bristol city centre – Keynsham
1, U3, 5, 5A Bath city centre – Oldfield Park

Important Notes

Replacement buses cannot stop directly at Keynsham or Oldfield Park stations. Instead, passengers should use the following alternative stops:

Keynsham:

  • Towards Bath Spa: High Street (outside church)
  • Towards Bristol Temple Meads: Bristol Road (opposite church)

Oldfield Park:

  • Towards Bath Spa: Bellots Road (A36 Lower Bristol Road)
  • Towards Bristol Temple Meads: A3604 Windsor Bridge Road

🔶 Yellow signage will be in place to guide customers between the stations and bus stops.

Passengers are advised to check their journey before travelling and allow extra time during the disruption.
