Healthy Man expands to Corsham and Trowbridge
A Wiltshire Council programme, designed to help men improve their physical health and wellbeing, is expanding to more areas following its successful launch.
The free Healthy Man programme will be launching in Corsham and Trowbridge in January following the success of its first cohort in Chippenham.
Healthy Man is a 12-week physical activity and wellbeing programme tailored for men who are less active or looking to achieve a healthier weight. Delivered by Wiltshire Council’s Sport and Physical Activity team in partnership with the Wiltshire Health Improvement Hub, the sessions combine exercise, nutrition advice, and men’s wellbeing workshops to help participants make lasting lifestyle changes. Activities include racket sports, ball games, gym sessions, fitness classes, and walking groups – all in a friendly and supportive environment.
Since its launch in Chippenham in September, the programme has already made a significant impact. One participant, Chris, a 47-year-old father of two, shared how joining Healthy Man transformed his life:
“I cannot overstate how instrumental these programmes have been in helping me get off the sofa, regain confidence, and embrace a healthier lifestyle. I’ve lost two stone, improved my mindset, and even started exploring a new career path to help others like me.”
Chris joined Healthy Man after facing major life challenges, including bankruptcy, separation, and health issues such as sleep apnoea, hypertension, and high cholesterol. Initially hesitant, he found the sessions welcoming and supportive:
“The camaraderie and friendship among participants and coaches made every session enjoyable and motivating. I’ve tried sports I never imagined I could, and the nutritional advice and wellbeing workshops have guided me to make better choices in my daily life.”

The programme also connects participants to wider support networks, such as Man Down, a community group supporting men’s mental health in Wiltshire.
Cllr Mel Jacob, Cabinet Member for Communities, Engagement and Corporate services, said: “The Healthy Man programme is about more than exercise, it’s about building confidence, friendships, and healthier habits.
“Helping people stay mentally and physically healthy by connecting them with their communities and promoting healthier lives is a key priority for us in Our Wiltshire Plan and the feedback from the first Healthy Man participants has been amazing. The success of the Chippenham group and Chris’ inspiring story shows how life-changing this programme can be, and we’re excited to bring it to more communities in Wiltshire.”
Cllr Clare Cape, Cabinet Member for Public Health, said: “Healthy Man is an important programme and it’s making a real difference to men’s health and wellbeing. By offering practical tools with the right support and encouragement, we can help people make lasting changes. Improving physical activity and mental wellbeing benefits not just individuals, but also families, workplaces, and communities. By growing this initiative, we can help more men look after their health, lower the risk of long-term conditions, and feel better day to day. I am delighted that the programme has helped Chris to make a meaningful improvement to his life.”
Sessions will start at Springfield Community Campus in Corsham and Trowbridge Sports Centre in January. Sessions are free, but places are limited. Men of all ages and abilities are welcome.
