Dorothy House Celebrates 50 Years with Spectacular Moments of Light Installation

Thousands of twinkling lights are transforming the grounds of Dorothy House into something truly extraordinary, as the hospice celebrates its 50th anniversary with a breathtaking new art installation by internationally acclaimed artist Bruce Munro.
The world-premiere installation, Moments of Light, is welcoming visitors to the hospice’s beautiful grounds in Winsley, near Bradford-on-Avon, from 1 October to 31 December 2026.
Created by Bruce Munro, an internationally renowned light artist and Dorothy House Ambassador, the installation offers far more than a spectacular visual experience. It’s an opportunity to pause, reflect, remember loved ones and find a moment of peace surrounded by light and nature.
A World of Light, Nature and Reflection
Visitors to Moments of Light can wander through thousands of illuminated forms spread across the hospice grounds, creating a beautiful landscape of glowing lights that appears to move and breathe with its natural surroundings.
The installation builds on Munro’s previous work at Dorothy House, including the much-loved permanent Firefly Woods installation, and forms part of an ongoing collaboration exploring the relationship between art, nature and bereavement.
Munro’s spectacular light installations have captivated audiences around the world, with previous works appearing in Australia, Japan, the United States, South Korea and across Europe.
Now, visitors to Wiltshire have the opportunity to experience a brand-new work created especially for Dorothy House.
Marking 50 Years of Compassionate Care
The installation is a centrepiece of Dorothy House’s 50th anniversary celebrations, recognising five decades of providing specialist palliative and end-of-life care to people and families across the region.
Over the years, the hospice has supported thousands of people through some of life’s most difficult moments, offering care, comfort and compassion when they’re needed most.
Wayne de Leeuw, Chief Executive of Dorothy House, explained the importance of the installation:
“For 50 years, we have walked alongside people during some of the most tender moments of their lives. This installation brings that spirit of compassion and reflection to a wider community of individuals who will inevitably all encounter death and grief at some point in their lives.”
The project reflects the hospice’s belief that conversations around death, dying and bereavement are an important part of life, and that art and nature can provide meaningful spaces for reflection and connection.
A Special Message from the Artist
Bruce Munro, who has worked with Dorothy House on previous projects, hopes the installation will offer visitors a peaceful and meaningful experience.
He said:
“I am honoured to create this new work for Dorothy House as part of its anniversary celebrations. My hope is that Moments of Light will offer visitors a space to breathe, reflect and feel held within an environment shaped by care, beauty and nature.”
Alongside the main installation, visitors will also have the opportunity to dedicate a light on a Firefly in memory of someone special, creating a growing constellation of remembrance.
It’s a particularly touching element of an event that celebrates not only the beauty of light, but also the memories and connections that remain with us.
Experience the Magic and Support Dorothy House
Tickets for Moments of Light are completely free, although visitors are encouraged to make a donation to support the hospice’s vital work.
Every donation helps Dorothy House continue providing free specialist care and support to people with life-limiting illnesses and their loved ones.
The installation is open throughout the autumn and festive season, offering visitors the chance to experience this remarkable artwork against the changing backdrop of the Wiltshire countryside.
Whether you’re visiting to remember someone special, spend time with family or simply enjoy an extraordinary display of light, Moments of Light promises to be a memorable experience.
