Classic spy comedy Our Man in Havana comes to the Theatre Royal Bath

A witty tale of espionage, mistaken identity and Cold War intrigue arrives at the Theatre Royal Bath this summer as Our Man in Havana takes to the stage from Tuesday 4 to Saturday 8 August.
Adapted by Clive Francis from Graham Greene’s much loved novel, the production follows James Wormold, a British vacuum cleaner salesman living in pre revolutionary Havana, Cuba.
Struggling to support his daughter, Wormold is unexpectedly recruited by MI6 to become a spy. With no intelligence training, no network of agents and little interest in espionage, he begins inventing elaborate reports and fictional operatives, drawing inspiration from his imagination and conversations overheard in local bars.
What starts as an innocent deception quickly spirals out of control when his increasingly outrageous intelligence is taken seriously by MI6, with consequences that reach far beyond anything Wormold ever intended.
The production stars Jack Ashton (Call the Midwife), Bob Barrett (Holby City), Leon Ockenden (Waterloo Road) and Jodie Steele (Heathers: The Musical), who together play more than 30 characters, bringing 1950s Havana vividly to life in a fast paced theatrical adventure.
Praised by critics for its clever adaptation and energetic storytelling, the show has been described by The Scotsman as “ingenious”, while The Herald called it “tremendous fun”. The Guardian praised its “fast moving farce”, and British Theatre Guide said Clive Francis’s adaptation “lovingly sends it up so far it practically goes into orbit”.
Performances begin at 7.30pm each evening, with 2.30pm matinees on Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday.
Our Man in Havana runs at the Theatre Royal Bath from 4 to 8 August.
