Campaign launched to keep a city centre Post Office in Bath

A campaign has been launched calling for a new city centre Post Office in Bath following confirmation that the current branch in Stall Street will close.
The Post Office branch, hosted within the TG Jones store, is due to close on 1 September, ahead of the store’s closure on 10 September.
Bath Liberal Democrats have launched a petition urging the Post Office to maintain a city centre service. The campaign follows discussions between Bath MP Wera Hobhouse, Bath & North East Somerset Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities and Communication, Councillor Manda Rigby, local ward councillor George Tomlin and representatives from the Post Office about securing a replacement location.
The campaign argues that a new branch should improve on the current service, with concerns previously raised by some residents about queues, staffing levels and accessibility since the Post Office relocated from Northgate Street in 2018.
As part of the campaign, residents are also being asked to identify areas where additional Post Office counter services may be needed outside the city centre.
Commenting on the announcement, Wera Hobhouse MP said:
“Post Office counter services are essential in so many aspects of our daily lives and are even a lifeline for many. I will provide every support to B&NES Council to ensure future provision in the city centre for our residents.”
Councillor Manda Rigby added:
“The Post Office fulfils a service to our residents like no other institution.”
The Post Office has said it is looking for a new location for a city centre branch. No replacement site has yet been announced.
