Bath residents urged to be wary of bogus callers

Feb 11, 2026 | News

Wessex Water is reminding people in Bath to stay alert when answering the door to anyone claiming to work for the company.

The warning follows reports of bogus callers attempting to obtain personal information by pretending to represent utility providers, either in person or over the phone.

Wessex Water has stressed that genuine staff rarely visit homes without a prior appointment. In the rare cases where a visit does take place, employees will always arrive in a clearly branded company vehicle, wear official uniform and carry photo identification.

A spokesperson for Wessex Water said anyone approached by someone claiming to be from the company should ask to see their ID card and, where possible, check outside through a window or door viewer for a branded vehicle.

They added that if there is any doubt, residents should contact Wessex Water directly on 0345 600 4 600. Staff will always be happy to wait outside while checks are made.
