Bath College Floristry Students Bring Colour to Dorothy House in New Community Partnership

May 26, 2026 | News

Adult floristry learners at Bath College are helping brighten Dorothy House Hospice Care through a new partnership that will see fresh floral arrangements delivered every two weeks until November.

The first arrangements were delivered to Dorothy House on 20 May as part of Bath College’s Charity of the Year initiative.

Students created the displays during their floristry classes, learning professional techniques including colour combinations and how floral design can positively impact emotionally sensitive spaces such as hospices.

The arrangements will now be refreshed fortnightly, helping students gain hands-on industry experience while bringing colour and warmth to welcome areas for patients, families, visitors and key workers.

Karen Simmons, Manager of Part-Time Adult Learning at Bath College, said the project had been especially meaningful for learners.

“Our learners were delighted to supply flowers for Dorothy House. It’s such an incredible charity, and so many of us have a personal connection to the work they do.

Creating these displays worked perfectly with our classroom modules and gave the students a wonderful opportunity to display their new skills. We are all delighted to continue this partnership throughout the course.”

Chelsea Wallace, Corporate Fundraiser at Dorothy House, said the arrangements would make a real difference to the hospice environment.

“The floral arrangement donations from Bath College are so appreciated and will truly enhance the welcome areas at the Hospice for our patients, families, and visitors.

It’s such a kind and thoughtful initiative from the college and students, and a wonderful reminder that acts of kindness, such as these beautiful floral arrangements, mean so much.”

The partnership is expected to continue throughout the year, with additional fundraising and awareness events also planned.

Bath College offers floristry courses as part of its adult learning programme, alongside a range of further education, apprenticeship and professional development opportunities across Bath and Somerset.
